Desert Hot Springs Saturday, December 13, 2008
Story by Lisa Robyn Lawrence Photos by Melissa Schoos
Santa and Mrs Claus made a special appearance at the Boys & Girls Club of Desert Hot Springs on Saturday, December 13. The teens of the Keystone Club helped organize a wonderful community outreach meal and gift presentation for children ages infant to 10 and their families. They served delicious tamales and posole, beverages and desserts to the more than 100 kids and parents who attended this uplifting event.
The Boys & Girls Club of Desert Hot Springs’s CPO, Adam Sanchez, the teens of the Keystone Club and the dedicated and caring staff of the Boys and Girls Club of Desert Hot Springs saw to it that the kids of this underserved community were not forgotten this Holiday season. Adam, it seemed, had the ear of “the big guy,” Santa Claus himself. He asked Santa if he could come and visit the club. As it turned out, Santa and Mrs. Claus were able to clear a little time from their very busy schedule to be there to, give out gifts and many, many hugs as well as have their photos taken with their greatest fans. One young lad even exclaimed, “ Santa, I love you more than Mickey Mouse!” What a sweetie. Many thanks to the Boys and Girls Club of DHS, Adam Sanchez CPO/President, Muriel Armstrong Executive Secretary, Jeanette Jaime-Quinonez Outreach / Club House Coordinator, Carolina Vasquez Education Specialist, Chris Megalonakis Unit Director, Joe William and all the rest of the staff, their fantastic and caring teens from the Keystone Club. A special thanks also to a very dedicated “Elf” Melissa Schoos who came with camera in hand to snap photos of the day’s events.
