Providing Hearing Assistance to the Elderly

Story and photos by Pat Krause

On May 21, 2009 the new non-profit Helping People Hear Again was officially launched. Helping People Hear Again was founded by Francoise Rhodes, owner/producer and host of “Traveling With Francoise” on Newstalk 920 KPSI. Pictured here are Michael Barnard, CEO Desert Samaritans; Francoise Rhodes, Founder and CEO of Helping People Hear; Dr. Judy Marquess-Lara from Better Hearing Systems; and Adam Zack, vice president of Jensen’s Foods.

Hearing-Aids-014.jpgThe program is simple, refurbish all the donated hearing devices and fit them for free to financially challenged individuals 60 years of age and over living in the Coachella Valley. To donate devices, drop boxes are located in all five valley Jensen’s at the customer service counter or front desk.

The ceremonial first hearing device donation took place at the Jensen’s Finest Foods in Palm Desert in front of a gathering of well wishers, donors, and interested individuals.

To apply for a free hearing device please call Desert Samaritans for the Elderly at 837-9066.
