The Palms Springs Modern Committee held its annual PS Mod Com Bash on Valentines Day, Fri., Feb. 14. The party was held at a private Palm Springs residence. Searchlights showed the way to the home. Two men in drag greeted the partygoers as they arrived. Beads and Valentine candy adorned the tables by the pool. Small, square flashing lights surrounded the pool and were on the tables too.

HippiesThe guests were told to look for those old bell-bottoms and Tie Dyes to wear for the party. Love beads and feather boas were a common sight. Hippie togs were in abundance. Amazingly some of the clothes really looked like they came from that era. I wonder if some guests actually kept some of the old clothes from that time in their closets or in storage.

The theme for this year’s party was "All You Need is Love" or "Love, Baby, Love," which was appropriate as it was Valentines Day. Music was compliments of the DJ, Victor Rodriguez. Music from the LOVE era was played and sometimes modern dance music was interjected. The guests grooved the night away.

Mayor and CouncilmanLocal dignitaries from the Palm Springs Modern Committee as well as Palm Springs Mayor Steve Pougnet and Palm Springs Councilman Chris Mills (pictured at left) attended. Other members of Modernism Week could also be found as guests.

DJ and poolDrinks and food were provided for the event. Small sandwiches, grapes, cheese and crackers, and desserts were available in one of the rooms of the home. A bar was set up on the patio and the DJ played music from the back side of the pool. A unique black wall of lights shown down on the pool below. Channels of water from the pool wander thru the home. Walkways covering the channels were provided for the evening guests.

This "Love-In" came at the same time as the Palm Springs Modernism Week at the Palm Springs Convention Center. The party was a fundraiser for the Modern Committee. This is just one of the Parties held this week; other parties and events were held by the Palm Springs Preservation Foundation, Palm Springs Historical Society, Palm Springs Modern Committee and the Palm Springs Art Museum. Star dedication's book signings, house tours, more parties and a showing of films are also part of Modernism Week.

DancingIt was a very cool evening so those who did not keep warm by dancing were able to stand under the upright heaters for warmth. A lot of the guests would go from room to room in the home looking at all the special decor. Large paintings adorned all the walls. The openness of the home was truly unique. The home was an architectural "one-of-a-kind" design. The rooms were so different from the usual home. It incorporated the desert in its concept from colors to keeping the home open to the outside scenery. Walls were kept open overlooking the pool. When wanted, panels of glass and wood could be opened or closed at will. The walls were pulled out from in between the walled areas. The use of various types of lighting was seen all over the home, inside and out.

It is a marvel of glass and steel.

Thanks to all everyone involved in Modernism Week who helped make this event such a fun success.
