The Palm Springs Art Museum held a PIZAZZ Gala on Sat., Jan. 31. Honorary Chairwomen were Annette Block, Janet Langford and Gala co-chairwomen Carol Fragen and Barbara From. The Museum's Associates Council is expected to contribute more than $700,000 from this gala.
Approximately 350 guests attended this fabulous affair. Some colorful PIZAZZ dresses were worn by a few of the ladies in honor of the evening’s theme.
Guests arriving were ushered up the Red Carpet Stairway by young Boy Scouts. The Boy Scouts were shy at first taking the ladies arms, but they soon lost their shyness and were eager to greet the next guest. They even learned to compliment the ladies as they escorted them. The Red Carpet was lined with a unique array of small led lit arrangements up the stairs. Beautifully dressed ladies greeted the guests as they entered the Art Museum.
A Fantasy Garden was created inside with a white, playful dog in a bed of colorful daisies. African Stiltwalkers, safari guide, living statues that did not move, a human puppet with puppet master and a clever chef rounded out the entertainment during the cocktail hour. A steel drum band played as guests ate appetizers from a long table with rotating flowers.
At 7 p.m., the guests were ushered through a long, white tunnel into the Annenberg Wing to a floral dream setting. Tall trees were the centerpieces at each table surrounded by a lush flower arrangement. Wall projections of stunning outdoor scenes and sounds of chirping birds and crickets made the garden seem real.
After a few comments by Harold Matzner, chairman of the board of trustees of the Art Museum, dinner was served. Dinner consisted of Orzo Pasta Salad, Osso Bucco Milanese, and Angel Hair Flana with asparagus and yellow pepper bundles. Dinner was complemented with assorted breads and rolls. A Lemon Bomb dessert resembling a pineapple ended the meal.
After the dessert was served, a trio of swing dancers broke into the dining room. After their second performance, the dancers invited the guests to follow them to the main Orientation Center to dance to the music of the wonderful live music by The Coasters. The Coasters played some of their hits such as “Poison Ivy” and “Love Potion No. 9” while the guests danced the night away.
Thanks to all the staff and volunteers at the Palm Springs Art Museum for making the PIZAZZ Gala such a success.
