It is a nonprofit corporation with the mission to improve the lives of the blind by creating opportunities for life-changing independence and by conducting community out reach and education programs.

Furry friends from around the Coachella Valley came out to support Guide Dogs of the Desert by participating in a pooch fashion show at the Gardens in El Paseo. Donations of $10 were accepted.

The star of the show was actor Dane Andrew and Rascal “The World’s Ugliest Dog.” Rascal is a Chinese hairless crested dog and has made appearances on "The Tonight Show," "The View," "ET’S Insider" and most recently seen on "Animal Planet." Rascal gave out paw autographs to his fans and graciously took snappy happy photographs with his fans!

Guide Dogs of the Desert welcome visitors to their campus for a fun and educational experience. The new facility is located in downtown Palm Springs and tours are available weekdays and Saturdays by reservation or prior to public graduation ceremonies.

Mark calendars for the next upcoming event, May 9, 2009, when Guides Dogs of the Desert hold its Second Annual “Desert Dog Run“ starting at 9 a.m. There will be $150 cash prize, a 50/50 raffle with cash prize, live music, vendor booths and more.
